My research is focused on various aspects of computational seismology.
The main objectives of my research are :
•
Developing the efficient seismic waveform inversion algorithms
for complex anisotropic media. To achieve this, I am developing
hybrid(linear/ non linear) inversion strategies combining global
and local optimization techniques.
•
Using Finite element method (FEM) as the forward modeling
engine for the linearized inversion. The advantage of using FEM is
its ability to use solid elements for visualizing and modeling of 3 D
objects.
•
Since, FEM forward modeling method is computationally
expensive, therefore, FEM code needs to be parallelized on CPU
based platforms and to additionally speed it up using the GPU
based platforms.
This inversion algorithm will be applied to the SEG SEAM salt model to
test its accuracy. The main significance of this research is that it will help
in solving real world problems related to characterization of oil and gas
in complex reservoirs.
